From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 16): NPA war materiel seized in Samar encounter

Troopers from the 87th Infantry Battalion have successfully recovered rebel weaponry and materiels during an encounter in Barangay Bay-ang, San Jorge town, Samar on March 13.

Captured was an M-16AI automatic rifle, a magazine, 20 5.56mm rounds, one hammock, one poncho tent, assorted medicines and belongings.

In a report forwarded Monday by 87th Infantry Battalion commanding officer Lt. Col. Antonio B. Dulnuan said his troops were conducting peace and security operations in the area when they saw the NPA rebels passing by.

A brief exchange of firefight followed forcing the enemy to withdraw from their position leaving behind several war materiel at the encounter site.

The rebels were unable to inflict casualties against government forces while casualties on the rebel side remain undetermined.
