ARMM takes “all-out-peace” campaign in Metro Manila

With a goal to amplify the call for peace in Mindanao and highlight the plight of the civilian victims of the ongoing military operation in Maguindanao, the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) launched a peace caravan in Metro Manila, the nation’s capital.

The ARMM government organized a peace caravan dubbed “Tabang sibilyan, isulong ang kapayapaan (help the civilians, push for peace)” around Metro Manila yesterday March 17.

The campaign drew support from the students and faculty members of University of the Philippines- Diliman, Miriam College, Ateneo de Manila University, and Culiat High School.

Quezon City District VI Congressman Christopher "Kit" Belmonte of, Culiat Barangay Chairman Victor Bernardo, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos and other civil society organization have also thrown their support to the peace campaign.

Part of its campaign is setting out a donation drive to help conflict victims in Maguindanao. Figures reveal there are 24,714 families or 123,537 affected individuals.

The regional government through its HEART project in collaboration with other concerned agencies has been doing its best to address the needs of the internally displaced constituents of Magauindanao.

Organizers started gathering at least a million signatures today to help push the Mindanao peace agenda.
