AFP-BIFF clash displaced 123,537 individuals as of March 16

The intensified law enforcement operation against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) and other terrorist groups in the region that was launched last February 25 has affected individuals 123,537  as of Monday March 16.

Data from the Humanitarian Emergency Response Team (HEART) of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) said there were 24,714 families already affected which stay outside and inside evacuation centers.

The total number of evacuation centers set up in 15 towns of Maguindanao province is 75. The municipality of Datu Saudi Ampatuan caters the biggest number of evacuees, 17,295, while the least comes from Datu Hofer town which has around 362 individuals.

Five medical missions were already carried out in the municipalities of Mamasapano, Sharif Saidona, Sharif Aguak and Datu Saudi. Most common diseases are cough, colds, fever, skin disease and gastric pain, according to HEART. So far there has been no reported incidence of outbreak.

On education, Rapid Damage Needs Assessment (RDNA) reports as of March 4 says there are 42 schools affected with 18,819 students and 283 teachers/staffs.

The needs assessment further revealed the IDPs needs are the following: food; clean water; and non-food items such as blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, and portalets.

The IDPs also saw the need to organize camp committees, psychosocial intervention for children, improve the sanitation, and establish leaning centers or spaces for class in evacuation centers.
