Eastern Mindanao Command scores NPA for attacking a civilian truck and killing off-duty militiaman

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 8): Eastern Mindanao Command scores NPA for attacking a civilian truck and killing off-duty militiaman

The Eastern Mindanao Command has scored the New People's Army (NPA) for attacking a civilian truck and killing an off-duty militiaman in separate incidents in Surigao Del Sur and Davao City.

"We condemn this cowardly act in its highest form. Targeting non-military target reflect the terroristic nature of the NPA bandits," EMC head Lt. Gen. Aurelio Baladad said.

He added that the attacks are blatant disrespect of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL).

"They blatantly violated the CARHRIHL which they claim they are adhering to," Baladad said

In a report received by the EMC, NPA bandits ambushed a coconut hauler truck in the afternoon of March 4 on Puyat Road, Brgy Cancavan, Carmen, Surigao Del Sur which injured the driver identified as a certain Jimmy Dales.

In another incident, NPA bandits killed an off-duty militiaman in front of his wife and young children on last March 5 at 3 p.m. in Sitio Panulawan, Purok Sampaguita, Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City.

Baladad said that the victim identified as Romelito B. Jumang-it, 34 years old, was tending to his farm together with his wife and children when three NPA bandits approached and shot him point blank using a .45 pistol.

"This inhumane act is in its worst form because the NPAs killed a father in front of his children and this will surely have a traumatic effect on their young minds," Baladad concluded.
