About 40 Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and four soldiers were killed, and three civilians were injured in the continuing all-out offensive in Maguindanao, said 6th Infantry Division spokesperson Army Captain Joanne Petinglay.

Apart from those killed, a number of BIFF rebels were also injured, she added.

Four BIFF bodies were recovered Saturday afternoon in Barangay Pusao Mamasapano.

It is said that a BIFF rebel was wearing a uniform of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force, believed to be from among those killed in the January 25 Mamasapano encounter.

Also recovered from the BIFF were an M60 machine gun, two M14 rifles, one grenade, two binoculars, and bullets.

Among those killed from the government side was an Army captain. Also wounded were five soldiers.

The fatality was identified as Capt. Gromel Auman, an Army Scout Ranger assigned with the 33rd Infantry Battalion.

Apart from the BIFF and military casualties, three civilians were injured, according to information relayed by Suara Bangsamoro.

Jerome Succor of Suara Bangsamoro identified the injured civilians as Boyong Unggla, 36, of Barangay Madia, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, who was hit in the head; Alon Maytula, 60, of Barangay Elian , Datu Saudi Ampatuan, and Farhenan Panigas.

Aside from elements of the 6th ID and Marines, anti-BIFF law enforcement from the Special Forces and the Army Scout Rangers also fought.

The continuous firefight has resulted in evacuations from Maguindanao.
