From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 5): 132 individuals from Davao Del Norte, Compostela Valley benefit from Army's ALS initiative

In line with its community development missions, 132 individuals, of various ages, from Davao Del Norte and Compostela Valley have successfully graduated from the Army's Alternative Learning System (ALS).

ALS and the accredited equivalency Army Literacy Patrol System (ALPS) is a joint undertaking of the Department of Education and the Compostela Valley-based 10th Infantry Division which aims to provide accredited learning opportunity to people of varying ages.

Graduation of the 132 ALS beneficiaries took place at 72nd Infantry Battalion headquarters in Barangay Tuburan, Mawab town, Compostela Valley last week, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson 1st Lt. Vergel Lacambra said.

"Poverty is not a hindrance to success,” said 50-year old Alexandra Casas, one of the ALS beneficiaries, upon receiving her diploma.

Of the 132 graduates, 54 students came from Visayan Village, Tagum City, Davao Del Norte while 78 came from Barangay Mipangi, Nabunturan town, Compostela Valley.
