From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 26): Number of ASG bandits slain in Sulu encounter now at 14

The number of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits killed during law enforcement operations in Barangay Tanum, Patikil town Sulu Wednesday morning has now climbed to 14, the Western Mindanao Command announced on Thursday.

This is nine higher than the previous reported.

Capt. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, said that the number of wounded bandits in the encounter has also climbed to 19, or five higher than the 14 reported earlier.

Two troopers were killed and another 16 were wounded in the series of encounters.

During Wednesday's firefight with the bandits, artillery and air strikes pounded ASG positions.

Six of the slain ASG bandits were identified as Berhamin Jawhari, Musar Sawadjaan, Jani Madjid, Adzmar Muhammad, Ompoy Uran, Mussal Jawhari while the rest remained unidentified as of this posting.

The military also received information that three Malaysian Jemaah Islamiyah operatives were seen during Thursday's clash in Patikul, Sulu which took place 9: 15 a.m.

Muyuela said the firefight lasted for 15 minutes.

No casualties were reported on both sides.

Muyuela said that they are still checking on this report.

She added that they are still verifying information that ASG sub-commander Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan was injured in Wednesday's clash in Patikul.
