Philippine Army’s Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD)
personnel disrupted an improvised explosive device (IED) that failed to explode
at a gasoline depot in this city, an official said Saturday.
Supt. Albert Larubis, local police chief, said the IED,
which was placed in a plastic bag, was thrown into the compound of Island
Petroleum Corp. depot in Barangay Tabuk, this city.
Larubis said investigation showed the bomb failed to explode
as the time fuse did not ignite although the bomber lighted the match stick
placed at the tip of the fuse before tossing the IED into the depot compound.
Larubis said the IED was discovered after the utility
personnel of the depot noted a plastic bag containing tin can lay idle at the
depot compound around 6:45 a.m. Saturday.
Larubis said the depot management immediately called the
police headquarters when the utility personnel informed them of the plastic bag
he found earlier.
He said the Army EOD immediately rendered safe procedure and
disrupted the IED as the responding K9 unit gave positive indication for
explosive upon verification.
He said the IED was ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) type of
explosive with non-electric blasting cap and time fuse.
He said investigation is ongoing aimed to identify the
person behind the attempt to bomb the gasoline depot.
