Southern Luzon Command neutralized 124 rebels in 2014

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 23): Southern Luzon Command neutralized 124 rebels in 2014

The Southern Luzon Command said on Friday that its units neutralized 124 New People's Army (NPA) rebels, including 18 ranking leaders, during the course of operations in 2014.

This is broken down into 12 killed, 33 captured and 79 who voluntarily surrendered, Major Angelo Guzman, Southern Luzon Command spokesperson, said.

Guzman said the capture of these individuals prevented the recruitment of new members for their armed component.

Civil-military operations efforts of "Bayanihan" teams led to the clearing of 40 barangays from enemy influence.

“Our focused military operations in 2014 gained headway in diminishing mass-based support on the Communist Party and the NPA,” Southern Luzon Command head Major Gen. Ricardo Visaya said.

He added that their community-based peace and development efforts in partnership with various stakeholders effectively complemented their focused military operations.

Most of the "Bayanihan" projects were integral part in the conduct of peace and development operations in the barangays.

A total of 9,443 various projects and activities with stakeholders were conducted, including community services, medical assistance, cleanliness and beautification, feeding programs, sports festivities, and visits to camp facilities.
