SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao -- Unidentified men
riding in tandem on a motorbike lobbed a hand grenade inside the residential
compound of a former Maguindanao board member here on Tuesday night, police
said.
Nobody was hurt in the incident as the grenade did not go
off, said Chief Inspector Jonathan de Gracia, Shariff Aguak police chief.
"But it sent fears among the household members,"
De Gracia said.
Quoting members of the family of former Maguindanao Board
Member Yasser Ampatuan, De Gracia said they heard a loud thud at past 9:45 p.m.
inside the compound.
When checked, they found a live hand grenade, he said,
adding that 45th Infantry Battalion bomb disposal team members safely took
custody of the explosive.
“Wala kaming kalaban, wala kaming kaaway (We have no known
enemies),” De Gracia quoted one of the family members as telling investigators.
Motive the grenade attack and its perpetrators remained
unknown.
The grenade throwing incident came a day after unidentified
men believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)
hurled a hand grenade in Barangay Nabundas in nearby town of Mamasapano , Maguindanao while govenrment
forces were proceeding to an area where the BIFF has been harassing civilians.
No one was hurt in that incident.
Earlier, three BIFF members were killed in a clash with
government forces in Barangay Nabundas. Two soldiers were also slightly wounded.
