After a month of in-depth investigation and surveillance, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) head Director Benjamin B. Magalong on Wednesday reported that a member of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was arrested by detectives of the CIDG Central Mindanao.
Magalong said that the suspect Abubakar Abdul Mantis was
arrested on Wednesday morning in Cabacan town in North
Cotabato on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge
Laureano Alzate of Branch 22, Cabacan.
Magalong said the suspect was caught in possession of a
white crystalline substance, believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or
shabu, weighing about 50 grams, a caliber .45 pistol, homemade 12-gauge
shotgun, a caliber .38 revolver and 3 fragmentation grenades.
He added that the operatives also discovered that Mantis was
in possession of a BIFF identification card under his name.
He said the detectives are now conducting an indepth
investigation in order to validate this information.
Magaong said Mantis is presently in the custody of the CIDG
Central Mindanao while charges for violations of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Law on
Firearms and Ammunition) and RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of
2002) are being prepared to be filed against him.
