Troops arrest ASG member in Zamboanga Sibugay

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 22): Troops arrest ASG member in Zamboanga Sibugay

Joint police and military forces have arrested a suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) implicated in series of kidnappings in the region and in nearby Basilan province, the police said.

Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the arrested ASG member as Bon Sarabpil alias Von and Kalbo.

Samuddin said Sarabpil was arrested during a law enforcement operation around 10:20 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Poblacion, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Samuddin said the suspect was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by a local Court for the crime of kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom.

Samuddin said the suspect had worked under Basilan ASG leader Montong Pula and the late kidnap-for-ransom-group (KFRG) leaders Ben Mungkay and Usman Lijal “during the height of kidnappings in Basilan and in Region 9 in 2009 to 2011.”

He said Sarabpil is also the conduit of the Basilan-based ASG and KFRG leaders based in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay namely Imam Yasin, Waning Adbusalam, Umbol Kahal and Itting Abbas.

Yasin is based in the town of Imelda while Abdusalam, Kahal and Abbas in the municipality of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Samuddin said Sarabpil had been responsible and active in kidnapping operations particularly in Region 9 up to the present.

Samuddin said Sarabpil was taken to this city for proper disposition.
