An alleged commander of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters was killed in a three-minute clash with soldiers late Wednesday afternoon in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, the military said.

The fatality, identified only as “Kumander Kamote,” died when troops at a detachment of the Army’s 45th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Labo-labo retaliated when BIFF gunmen opened fire on them past 5 p.m., Captain Joan Petinglay, public affairs officer of the 6th Infantry Division said.

None of the soldiers was hurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, in Sultan Kudarat province, a 12-year old girl died when she was hit by a log on a passing truck in Kalamansig town early Wednesday morning.

Jassy Faye Baltazar Jumamil was walking home after attending the second day of the traditional Misa de Gallo (Christmas dawn masses) in Barangay Limulan when the accident happened.

The girl was rushed to the Lebak Doctors Hospital where she died an hour later.
