Another suspect in the slay try of Iligan City Solon nabbed

From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 17): Another suspect in the slay try of Iligan City Solon nabbed

Another suspect in the ambush-slay attempt of Rep. Vicente “Varf” Belmonte, of the lone district of Iligan City, was collared in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental Tuesday evening.

The suspect, Rene Jariol, 37, of Maigo, Lanao Del Norte, was seen by the village residents of Gasi in Laguindingan, wandering in “search of something” in the village’s cornfield.

When accosted, Jariol reportedly tried to run away, prompting the villagers to call the police. Jariol was identified through his Community Certificate issued “Dec. 16, 2014,” the same date of his arrest last Tuesday.

The arrest of Jariol brought in a total of three suspects arrested in the villages of Laguindingan after a group of unidentified armed men ambushed the convoy of Balmonte Thursday last week.

Witnesses told the combined military and police who were combing the area that three suspected gunmen were reportedly left behind when the assailant’s getaway car fled after the ambushed.

The two others who were earlier arrested were Dominador Tumala, 42, of Sergio Osmena, Zamboanga Del Norte, “Tata” Dokumentado, of Iligan City. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have taken custody of Tumala while Dokumentado was released after noting that the guy was “mentally deprived.”

Despite the arrest of the three suspects, the law enforcers have yet to file charges against possible suspects in the ambush-slay attempt of the Iligan Solon, whose three escorts were killed, while three others, including Belmonte, was wounded.
