A son of a hollow block-maker and a housewife graduated on
top of the Candidate Soldiers Course “Matalim” Class here in Western
Mindanao .
The graduation ceremony of the six-month Candidate Soldiers
Course cross trained in Jungle Warfare and Mountain Operations Course held
Tuesday at Camp Cesar Sang-an, the home of the First Infantry “Tabak” Division,
the premier command of the Philippine Army, in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.
Private Rogen E. Peregrino received the Commander, 1st
Infantry Division Award for graduating Number 1 out of 143 trainees in the
Candidate Soldiers Course Class 348-2014.
Capt. Franco Salvador Suelto, First Infantry Division acting
public affairs officer, said Wednesday that Peregrino graduated with a General
Point Average of 88.57 percent in all evaluated subjects both in academic and
non-academic in the six-month training.
Suelto said Peregrino, whose father is a hollow block-maker
and mother a housewife, is from the Municipality
of Mahayag , Zamboanga del
Sur.
Suelto said that Private Jeramel C. Abalde received the
“Tarzan” or the Physical Proficiency Award, which is being given to trainee who
obtained highest rating in Physical Fitness Test throughout the duration of the
training.
Abalde hails from Basarvil II, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao
del Norte.
Suelto said the 143 strong men aged 21 to 26 who came from
the different provinces and tribes in Zamboanga
Peninsula , Lanao Provinces
and Misamis Occidental (ZAMPELAN) successfully passed the rigid and meticulous
screening and processing standard set by the Philippine Army.
He said the new Privates belongs to the “Matalim”
(Mandirigmang Tagapagligtas na Laging Iniisip and kapakanan ng Mamamayan) Class
348-2014 who will be assigned to b peace and development to Western
Mindanao .
“They are now ready to for deployment in different units of
the 1st Infantry Division,” Suelto added.
Brig. Gen. Gerardo Barrientos Jr., 1st Infantry Division
commander, congratulated the 1st Division
Training School (1DTS) Officers and
personnel who were responsible for the training of the new breed of soldiers
who literally transformed the trainees from “boys to men” who will serve the
people of Western Mindanao .
Barrientos reminded the fresh graduates to serve the country
in accordance to the slogan--“Kawal ay Disiplinado, Bawal Abusado, Dapat
Asintado”--of Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang and the
Army Core of Values.
Tuesday’s graduation was witnessed by the Officers, Enlisted
Personnel and Civilian Employees of the 1st Infantry Division and the proud
parents and relatives of the newly graduate Privates.
