From the Manila Bulletin (Nov 3): Uproar over ambush of MILF commander
The Suara Bangsamoro, a group of militant Muslims, has urged authorities to conduct a deeper probe into the recent ambush of a top senior official of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and a Maguindanao barangay councilor in Sultan Kudarat.
Jerome Aba, spokesman for Suara Bangsamoro, said the killing of Manubakan Abdul, also known as MILF Commander Garrison of the 108th Base Command, and a relative identified as Abdulkarim Maslamama, councilor of Barangay Midkunding in General SK Pendatun, Maguindanao happened at a time the House of Representatives was conducting public consultations on the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in several areas in Mindanao.
“This is proof the government is not serious in its peace efforts in Mindanao,” Aba alleged.
Earlier, an Army official in Central Mindanao hinted the killing of Commander Garrison and Maslamama was due to a personal grudge.
The victims, on board a motorcycle, were on their way to General SK Pendatun last Oct 29 when they were flagged down by still unidentified suspects and shot them. Both died on the spot.
Aba said they will submit anytime this week their appeal for an in-depth investigation of the ambush to the Joint MILF-GPH Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH).
“Kilala namin si MILF Commander Garrison. Akala niya ay may peace na sa Mindanao kaya nakakagala na siya (We know who MILF Commander Garrison is. He thought there is already peace in Mindanao so he’s roaming freely here),” said Aba.

Surara Bangsamoro (Voice of the Moro People) is a Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) sectoral/political front organization active among Moros in the Southern Philippines. The group is one of several Moro-based CPP fronts. Others include the Moro-Christian People's Alliance, Kawagib (Rights), Liga ng Kabataan Moro (League of Moro Youth), and Khadidja (a Moro women's group).
ReplyDeleteSuara Bangsamoro and the CPP would like to discredit the government and the Philippine military while undermining the government-MILF peace agreement. It is in the CPP's interest to keep MILF forces in the field as a security threat to the Philippine state. A militant MILF could tie down a significant portion of the AFP's combat power that might other wise be redirected to conduct operations against the Maoist New People's Army, the military wing of the CPP.
