The assumption of Lt. Col. Pompeyo Jason Almagro as the new commander of the 47 th Infantry Battalion in southern Negros will be met with tactical offensives, Andrea Guerrero, spokesperson of the Armando Sumayang Command - Southwest Front, said.
Guerrero claimed that the predecessor of Almagro, Lt. Col. Ariel Reyes, was reportedly relieved for his failure to dismantle the South West Front, despite the implementation of the IPSP (Internal Peace and Security Plan) Bayanihan, and the surrender of alleged NPA members, among other others.
On the contrary, she claimed, the Southwest Front remains stronger and has even expanded.
The 3 rd Infantry Division, however, praised the leadership of Reyes for maintaining its records of zero human rights violations, and for successfully “winning the peace” campaign in southern Negros.
Reyes was even conferred the Military Merit Medal and 3ID Command Plaque by Maj. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero, 3ID commanding general, during the turnover of command ceremony in Barangay Tiling, Cauayan, last month.
Despite the continued military operations to protect the Philex mining, Guerrero said the people of the 6 th district are up in arms against the destructive operations of the mining firm.
She also claimed that the Southwest Front was responsible for the punishment of several members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit, including a certain Tagar in Brgy. Yao-Yao, Cauayan, Junar in Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, and a certain Elmer, a member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade in Brgy. Locotan, Kabankalan City.
Meanwhile, Almagro solicited the support of local government units, nongovernment organizations, and other stakeholders in winning the peace campaign, in southern Negros.
The 47th IB is now under the supervision of the 302nd Infantry Brigade, based in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental.
Guerrero scored what she alleged to be deceptions of Almagro in the recycled “winning the peace” program, claiming that it is doomed to fail again.
“We will welcome the program of Col. Almagro and his fake peace program with mounting protests of the people and tactical offensives,” she said.
