From Business World (Nov 3): Bids wanted for bullet contract
THE PHILIPPINES’ Defense department is in the market for a fresh supply of ammunition for its military and is set to bid out the supply contract this year.
Documents from the Department of National Defense (DND) Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) said that the contract for the supply and delivery of the 14 million rounds of ammunition will have an approved budget funding of P460.1 million.
“These ammunitions are finished products already and no longer needed to be assembled by the Government Arsenal. The Philippine Army will be using them for their operations,” Lawyer Angelito C. Castillo, BAC secretariat, told BusinessWorld on Monday.
Funds for the procurement project will be sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of the Philippine Army for the year 2014.
Under the contract, the DND’s requirements will be 14,639,439 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm ball cartridge, 2,340 rounds of 105mm HE (high explosive) with Fuze cartridge and 1,500 rounds of 105mm Illumination with Fuze.
The first type of ammunition is typically used by assault rifles such as M16s and M14s, while the remaining two are used in field artillery.
To be eligible for the contract, interested bidders must have completed a contract similar to the project within the last five years, the BAC said.
Bidding will be open to all interested companies -- both local and foreign -- which will undergo a discretionary pass or fail criteria as specified in government procurement laws.
Bid opening is scheduled on Nov. 10, 9:00 am at the BAC conference room in the DND building at Camp Aguinaldo on Quezon City.
