In its continuous efforts to undertake viable approaches in promoting peace in the Bangsamoro, the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) held series of forums for community leaders and core groups of CSO’s in Western Mindanao.
On September 13, 2014, UNYPAD held focus group discussions at Salsilah center, IFCL Conference Room, Isabela city, Basilan province attended by community leaders, members of the academe, youth and religious sectors.
The Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) submitted to Congress on September 10, 2014 was among the issues discussed so that stakeholders can see how good it was crafted and modified.
Brother Yusoph Lumambas, UNYPAD Secretary General organized the activity through the UNYPAD Basilan Chapter and facilitated by the research component of Third Party Monitoring Team (TPMT). Various Issues and concerns regarding the BBL were noted and clarified in order to clear misconceptions and unhealthy speculations by the people in affected areas.
On September 14, the UNYPAD proceeded to Zamboanga city and engaged in similar undertaking. Brother Zulfhikar Samsaraji, President of UNYPAD – Zamboanga Chapter organized the program. Community leaders from different barangays attended the forum. Moro community leaders in Zamboanga city and the Bangsamoro Leadership and Management Institute (BLMI) facilitated the half-day program held at a private residence compound.
Also, UNYPAD officers travelled to Bongao in the island province of Tawi-Tawi on September 17, 2014 and held similar program.
The participants expressed their profound gratitude to UNYPAD, other groups and international entities who are playing crucial roles in the peace process and promoting the value of peace in Mindanao region.
UNYPAD had joined efforts with Mindanao Action for Peace and Development (MAPAD), BLMI, and other CSO’s in Mindanao in creating harmonious relationship and understanding among inhabitants of the region through raising public awareness and encouraging participation in the peace building.
UNYPAD is a Cotabato City-based non-government organization. Among its primordial vision is to promote peace and understanding through productive dialogue with youth and other sectors of society.
The UNYPAD Peace Dialogue Program was supported by the European Union (EU) through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
