The Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 81 on Monday deferred the pre-trial hearing of the communist couple Benito and Wilma Tiamzon for the cases of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
In his report on GMA radio DZBB's “Super Balita sa Tanghali”, reporter Allan Gatus said the pretrial proceedings was reset to August 21 at 8 a.m. following the pending resolution on the couple's motion for reconsideration (MR) on the court's earlier ruling junking the couple's motion to set aside arraignment and motion to dismiss the case.

The report said the MR was now submitted for resolution.
Benito and Wilma, chairman and secretary general of the Communist Party of the Philippines- New People's Army (CPP-NPA), respectively, were arrested last March in Cebu days before the NPA marked its 45th anniversary.
Aside from kidnapping and serious illegal detention cases, the Tiamzon couple are also facing cases of rebellion and crimes against humanity, including murder dating back to 1988.
It was the third time that the QC RTC deferred the pre-trial proceedings of the Tiamzon couple for the kidnapping and serious illegal detention case.
The counsel of the Tiamzon couple had earlier argued that the kidnapping and serious illegal detention case should have been included in the rebellion case filed against them.
