From Tempo (Aug 6): Gunmen blast cell site in Cagayan
BALLESTEROS, Cagayan – Heavily armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) blasted a tower and a manhole of a telecommunication company in Ballesteros town last Monday.
Senior Inspector Harvey Pajarillo, Ballesteros town chief of police, said that at least 30 fully armed men introduced themselves to the duty guard as members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) as they tried to enter the Globe cellular site.
As the guard resisted, the armed men blasted the telecom’s tower and manhole thrice with improvised explosive devices.
Policemen assigned to secure the cell site opened fire at the suspects, forcing them to leave the area.
Pajarillo said that hot-pursuit operation against the attackers was ongoing as of yesterday.
