DAVAO CITY  – Philippine Army Colonel Macairog Alberto was assumed as the new commander of the Task Force Davao here.

Macairog, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1986, replaced Colonel Casiano Monilla, said Captain Alberto Caber, a spokesman for the Eastern Mindanao Command based in Davao City.

Major General Ariel Bernardo, commander of the 10th Infantry Division, presided over the ceremony Wednesday which was attended by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Lieutenant General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, chief of the Eastern Mindanao Command, among other guests in the police and military, and representatives from various government agencies.

Duterte thanked the military for helping the local police force in maintaining peace and order in Davao City. “I want to thank the military for securing Davao City and for protecting the welfare of the humanity,” Duterte said.

Bernardo also praised the task force for its many accomplishments here. “Task Force Davao displayed a very good performance in anti and counter terrorism in the city, you shall maintain or even surpass this achievement by creating a positive change in your leadership,” Bernardo.

Alberto vowed to pursue peace and development in Davao. “As I face high expectations and challenges in this new position, I feel a great sense of confidence knowing that we have a very cooperative environment, with our stakeholders not only sharing our common purpose and desire, but leading us in the objective of providing good governance and service to our people to eventually achieve a truly secure and progressive environment,” he said.

He said the Task Force Davao has achieved a great milestone in security Davao City and making it a peaceful place and a terrorist-free society for residents.

But despite all these rhetoric praises, the communist New People’s Army rebels are still active in some parts of Davao City, especially in Paquibato District.
