Army hunts BIFF in bomb attack that killed 1 soldier, hurt 3 others

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 6): Army hunts BIFF in bomb attack that killed 1 soldier, hurt 3 others

Government forces are hunting down a group of outlawed Moro rebels who set off an improvised explosive device in Maguindanao that killed one soldier and wounded three others on Thursday.

Colonel Dickson Hermoso, speaking for the 6th Infantry Division, said the soldiers belonging to 45th Infantry Battalion were heading to its headquarters from Camp Omar when a bomb went off at past 4 p.m.

He did not name the soldier fatality while his next of kin are yet to be officially informed. Among the wounded was the company commander of 45th IB Charlie company.

Hermoso said manhunt has been on-going.

The IED fashioned from 81-mm mortar with mobile phone as trigger mechanism was set off while the soldiers were passing by the village of Maitumaig, Datu Unsay, killing the military driver.

Hermoso blamed the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters as behind the IED attack.

Abu Misry Mama, speaking for the BIFF, claimed they set off the bomb and will continue doing so until the military leave Maguindanao.

Hermoso assured the public that the Maguindanao highway remains safe but discouraged commuters to travel at night or early morning.
