NPA rebels kill CAFGU man in ambush

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 1): NPA rebels kill CAFGU man in ambush

An active member of the Citizens Armed Forces and Geographical Unit (CAFGU) died in an ambush by members of the New People's Army (NPA) while on his way to their camp in Sitio Binubon, Barangay Pag-oring Nuevo, Libmanan, Camarines Sur, on Sunday morning.

A police report identified the victim as Ramon Manzano, who was based at a Philippine Army Detachment in Sitio Dinumpilan, Barangay Malinao, Libmanan.

The report said Manzano was travelling on board his motorcycle going to report for duty from his house at about 9:00 a.m. when five men armed with .45-caliber pistols blocked his way and peppered his body and head with bullets.

After shooting him, the rebels casually walked away while the residents rushed inside their homes.

Manzano's fellow security officers immediately responded but they were not able to catch up with the rebels and just brought the victim to the funeral parlor for autopsy.

Meanwhile, another group of NPA rebels shot dead a farmer while was working on a riceland owned by his uncle in Purok 4, Barangay Cabungahan, Cawayan, Masbate.

Victim Joniel Tumulak, a resident of Barangay Tuburan, Cawayan, was working on the farm when the armed rebels arrived, confronted him for allegedly being military and police informer and gunned him down.

Prior to his killing, Tumulak had reportedly been receiving death threats but he had denied the rebels' accusation as, claiming he was just and ordinary farmer.
