Army, NPA clash in Albay town

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 14): Army, NPA clash in Albay town

As of this writing, Philippine Army soldiers are still in hot pursuit of New People's Army (NPA) rebels who they had encountered at Barangay Talisay, a far-flung village in Oas town in Albay, at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Lt. Albert Belingan of the PA's 901st Infantry Brigade said there were no casualties reported yet but, he said, they had recovered at least two M16 rifle, improvised explosive device and anti-government documents from the rebels.

The Army troopers were on a patrol operation when they encountered the rebels whom they engaged in a 10-minute firefight.

Belingan said the rebels escaped towards the direction of Barangay Ramay of Oas town.

The NPA has been active lately, executing military and paramilitary men as well as suspected military and police assets using young-looking members in the assassination mission.
