Engineering units from the Philippine Army (PA) and Republic of Korea Armed Forces have successfully completed the repairs and rehabilitation on the "Yolanda"-battered Naga-Naga Elementary School in Palo town, Leyte.

This was revealed by Major Amado Gutierrez, 8th Infantry Division spokesperson, Wednesday.

Prior repair efforts of the two militaries, the elementary school was a total wreck, he added.

Gutierrez said Naga-Naga Elementary School was formally re-opened last May 9.

Present in the inauguration ceremonies were Palo Mayor Lourdes Petilla and Naga-Naga Elementary School principal Divina Monhe, Ph.D.

Also present during the celebration were the troops under South Korean Joint Support Group Philippines (SK-JSGP) military contingent led by Col. Lee Chul-won and troops under PA engineering units led by Maj. Danny Rey Montemayor.

“I would like to express my deepest admiration and high regard to our comrades from the Republic of Korea Support Group Philippines "Araw contingents" whose love and passion for our fellow Filipinos brought new hope for the country. Your sweat and sacrifices might not be enough to bring back the lives lost in the super typhoon, but your sweat is more than enough to keep us going with our lives and your effort will forever be etched in our hearts and minds,” 8th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Jet Velarmino said.

Gutierrez said troopers from the SK-JSGP and PA engineering units were instrumental in the repair and rehabilitation of the school facilities.

Naga-Naga Elementary School is the 8th school rehabilitated in the Palo area and another 10 are still undergoing repair and rehabilitation works as of this posting.
