From InterAksyon (May 20): NPA leader, 2 others die in botched North Cotabato police station attack
The Compostela Valley-based 10th Infantry Division announced that a ranking New People's Army (NPA) leader and two others were killed in a botched attack at the President Roxas Municipal Police Station in North Cotabato early Tuesday morning.
Capt. Ernesto Carolina, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said the failed raid took place at around 3:45 a.m.
Carolina said the bodies of the NPA's "Kumander Revo" and his two companions were recovered by pursuing military and police units.
Carolina stated that an undetermined number of NPA fighters were wounded in the encounter.
The rebels arrived in Roxas Police Station around 3:30 a.m. on board three commandeered vehicles - a forward truck, an Elf-type truck and a multi-cab.
The NPAs were reportedly garbed in camouflage uniforms and tried to overrun the police station.
According to Lt. Col. Nilo Vinluan, commander of the Army's 57th Infantry Battalion stationed near the area, the NPA offensive failed because the police were alert and ready to repulse the attack and the community also provided timely information.
"The alert policemen occupied a strategically advantageous position on the second floor of the station and were able to deliver effective fire from there, preventing the entry of the attacking NPA," Vinluan said.
