From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 9): Eastern Mindanao Command joins nation in 'Araw ng Kagitingan' commemoration

Officers and enlisted personnel of the Eastern Mindanao Command, led by Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III, paid tribute to the gallant veterans of World War II as the entire nation commemorates "Araw ng Kagitingan" Wednesday morning.

This took place at the Veterans Memorial Monument, Freedom Park, Davao City around 7 a.m., said Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman.

Present in the activities were The Veterans Federation of the Philippines and Sons and Daughters Association Inc., World War II Heritage Organization, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Davao Historical Society Foundation Inc., Order of the Knights of Rizal, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines, 4th Degree knights of Columbus, Department of Education, Philippine National Police, Boy Scout and Girl Scout of the Philippines, non-government organizations, local government units and agencies.

“The celebration reminds us to relive the great acts of our forefathers who offered their ultimate sacrifice to bring back the sovereignty of our country. As we honor them today, let us not merely pay lip service to the ideals that they fought for. The essence of celebrating the 'Araw ng Kagitingan' is realizing that we all share in the toil of nation building," Cruz said in his message.
