THE GUNS FALL SILENT | Awaiting the signing of the CAB at Camp Darapanan

From InterAksyon (Mar 28): THE GUNS FALL SILENT | Awaiting the signing of the CAB at Camp Darapanan

The afternoon sun was searing as hundreds of Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters and their supporters gathered at Camp Darapanan, in Sultan Kudarat town, Maguindanao Thursday to await the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

Despite the heat, the fighters did not break ranks.

Silence gripped the crowd as the ceremonies began and, one by one, presidential peace adviser Teresita Deles, MILF chairman Murad Ebrahim, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and, finally, President Benigno Aquino III, spoke.

And then, the moment they had all been waiting for -- the signing of the CAB by MILF chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal and government peace panel chair Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, sealing an end to decades of conflict.
Cheers and shouts of “Allahu akbar (God is great)” erupted, followed by prayers of thanks.

At long last, war was over.
