The Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) participated in the its 5th Annual Conference of Civil Society Organization in Islamic World.
  
The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation in partnership with the Organization of Islamic Conference International (OIC Int’l) invited BDA to the event which pooled delegates from CSOs coming from 200 Islamic countries worldwide.

Ustadz Mohammad S. Yacob, BDA Executive Director, represented the organization in the two-day gathering held at Holiday Inn Istanbul Airport Hotel, Istanbul Turkey on December 14-15, 2013.

This year’s theme was “The rising role of civil society organizations in the Islamic World.”

 The participants discussed their roles as CSOs in addressing major concerns affecting the Muslim societies in the world.

Yacob introduced BDA as the development arm of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and related the agency’s mandate that is to lead, determine and manage relief, rehabilitation and development projects in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.

The executive director further said that the topics discussed in the conference are very much related to what BDA is doing, especially on humanitarian and development aspects.

In the conference, roles of NGOs and CSOs on humanitarian and crisis situation are discussed within the context of historical and cultural ties.

Participating organizations shared challenges they face in their respective projects and programs and the problem of the Islamic World as a whole based on political, economical and cultural grounds.

In the given situations and challenges they identified, the participants laid down their future plans they can do jointly during the sessions.

On a special meeting prior to the conference proper, the situation of Syria was discussed including the future of humanitarian action therein.

Since 2011, Syria has been facing crisis as majority of the populace demands the ouster of the incumbent president. Protesters face crackdown of security forces.

Armed civilians have been fighting against the government troops. The conflict has been displacing thousands of affected civilians. Many have been seeking refuge from neighboring countries.
