Soldiers from 3rd ID get promotion

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 26): Soldiers from 3rd ID get promotion

Some 413 enlisted men from the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID) of the Philippine Army in Jamindan, Capiz were promoted to the next rank after hurdling requirements of the Armed Forces promotion system, said spokesman Maj. Rey Tiongson.

A run-down of the promotion showed 162 soldiers receiving the rank of Corporal, 129 Sergeants, 82 Staff Sergeants, and 40 Technical Sergeants.

In promoting the soldiers, Tiongson said they are allowed to handle greater responsibilities including more sensitive ones and along with the rise in rank comes higher take home pay to their families and more fringe benefits.

The 3ID is the AFP's vanguard against the armed threat from the New People's Army in Western Visayas, and its reputation as a no-nonsense military arm of the government in the pursuit of peace in the region has received accolades from the public, its image untarnished by abuses.
