NPA rebel surrenders in Cagayan

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 1): NPA rebel surrenders in Cagayan
 
A member of the New People's Army (NPA) in Cagayan, tired of the incessant fighting and fleeing, surrendered to authorities Wednesday morning.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Senior Supt.Reuben Theodore Sindac identified the surrenderee as Oliver Duerme, 18 a resident of Sitio Balatubat, Barangay Camiguin Island in Calayan, Cagayan

The former surrendered to Vice Mayor Rommel Almeda of Aparri, Cagayan Wednesday morning.

He also gave up a 9-mm firearm without any bolt and magazine.

Sindac said Duerme is the second NPA member who surrendered in Cagayan this year.

Duerme, who joined the underground movement sometime in 2008, was operating at the 2nd district of Cagayan.

The former is now under the custody of the Aparri Police.
