From the Philippine Information Agency (Apr 16): NPA attacks govt troops, abducts civilians in Tagbina town

A Cafgu member under the 23rd Infantry Batallion based in Tagbina town here was reportedly wounded by suspected New People's Army rebels around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.

In a press statement, the military said an undetermined number of NPA believed to be under Guerilla Front 14 of Northeastern Mindanao were responsible for the attack. Firefight ensued and lasted for about 20 minutes. The victim was hit in the stomach and immediately brought to Andres Soriano Memorial Hospital in Mangagoy, Bislig City for medical treatment.

The rebels also allegedly abducted three members of CAFGUs and three civilians while withdrawing from the area.

Prior to the incident, 75IB CMO Officer Jolito Borces said in a statement that some concerned citizens reported the presence of the identified individuals who were conducting extortion activities in the area.

The Police Provincial Office here confirmed the incident. As of this writing, the abducted civilians and Cafgu members are still in the hands of the rebels while the local government is conducting measures for negotiations and safety release of the victims.
