Military to turn over internal peace and security tasks to LGUs in Samar, Nothern Samar

From the Philippine Information Agency (Apr 16): Military to turn over internal peace and security tasks to LGUs in Samar, Nothern Samar 

In the next two years, the military will turn over to local governments the principal responsibility of ensuring peace and security in Samar and Northern Samar provinces.

The 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army based in Catbalogan City, Samar vowed that all the provinces of Region 8 will become “manageable conflict-affected and ready for development provinces” in 2016.

“In the next two years, we will be handing over to the LGUs of Samar and Northern Samar the responsibility for Internal Peace and Security of their respective provinces-meaning, all the provinces of Region 8 by 2016 will become Manageable Conflict-Affected and Ready for Development Provinces,” Lieutenant Colonel Leo Lorenzo Madroňal, assistant chief of staff for civil-military operations, said.

Madroňal said the military has already turned over to the LGUs of Leyte, Eastern Samar, Biliran and Southern Leyte provinces the responsibility maintaining internal peace and security in the said areas. He said these provinces had been declared either “insurgency-free” or “manageable conflict–affected and ready for development.”

The statement was made during the a recent Regional Development Council 8, technical planning group workshop.
