The Central Committee of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has reiterated its standing policy of “hands-off” on Philippine elections, saying it is very divisive and usually the worst person comes out victorious.
Muhammad Ameen, chair of the MILF secretariat, told Luwaran that the reiteration was undertaken during a recent special meeting of the MILF highest policy-making body.
However, he explained that the MILF will not prevent members from voting whoever they want to be in the saddle of power including those for prospective areas of the future Bangsamoro.
“The MILF will not anoint any candidate,” Ameen stressed, adding that those individual members claiming that so and so candidates are officially supported by the MILF are speaking for themselves and they do not carry the blessing of the MILF.
He described the MILF as an organization beyond and above the shallow confines of partisan politics.
In the meantime, the chair of a youth organization called Luwaran that he appealed to voters in the forthcoming elections to vote candidates who are pro-peace process and more particularly who are supporting the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB).
Arsad Solaiman, chair of the Youth for Genuine Bangsamoro Empowerment (YBGE), disclosed to Luwaran that those candidates who are warmongers before should not be given the chance to be power, saying they will continue with their divisive stances and their spoilage of the peace process.
Asked to name the candidates, he merely said, “They are silent now but except for Mayor Celso Lobregat who continues to bark the same tune versus the peace process.”
Lobregat is now running for a congressional seat in Zamboanga City.
