Posted to the MILF Website (Apr 8): "Let's pray to realize the Bangsamoro government": Ka'gan leader

(The) distinguished Ka’gan (popularly known as Kalagan) tribe leader urged fellow Moro people to support and pray for the realization of Bangsamoro government.

During the 39th Qur’an Readers Assembly held at the AVR, Mindanao State University in General Santos City on April 6, 2013, Salem Demuna, Commissioner of the National Commission on Muslim Filipino representing Ka’gan tribe said in local vernacular “Let’s pray to realize the Bangsamoro government.”

Moreover, he asked the audience to also pray for peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sabah, Malaysia.

More than 60 people have died out of the confrontation between the Malaysian authority and the forces of Sultan of Sulu which was sent to Sabah two months ago to assert their claim over the land.

Demuna, chairman of Learned Ka’gan Foundation, a non-government organization which works for the betterment of Ka’gan tribe, has been active in peace advocacy and fostering education among the Moro youth.

The Commissioner was present in the assembly that was attended by more than 150 people to give inspirational message.

The gathering was a venue for the assembly of Qur’an reciters in Socsargen and the conduct of the annual regional Qur’an reading competition.

Demuna believes that President Aquino is keen to give the aspiration of the Moro people for self-governance through the proposed Bangsamoro government.

He also commended the Moro people of General Santos City for their strong partnership with the local government and other stakeholders in undertaking development initiatives for the good of the Muslim communities.

The Philippine Government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front have signed the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro on October 15, 2012 at Malacanan Palace. The initial truce will pave way for the establishment of the Bangsamoro Government by 2016.

On April 3, 2013, the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) held their first en banc session in Manila. They discussed the initial steps to be done to start the drafting of the Bangsamoro Basic Law which is their primary mandate.

The BTC is comprised of 15 Moro people on which eight of them, including the Chairman Mohagher Iqbal, was nominated by the MILF while seven was selected by the government.

Ka’gan is one of the 13 Moro tribes in country. Their communities are found along the coastal areas of the Provinces of Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur and Sarangani.
