From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 26): Super body on extrajudicial slays, rights violations meets Jan 8

The super body created to deal with extra-judicial killings, forced disappearances, torture and violations of human rights is set to convene next month. Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, complying with the directive of President Benigno S. Aquino III, said the first meeting of the Inter-Agency Committee on Extra-judicial Killings and Human Rights Violations will be on Jan. 8, 2013.

Based on Administrative Order No. 35 issued by President Aquino, included in the said committee are the DOJ, Dept. of the Interior and Local Government, Dept. of National Defense, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Office of the Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs, Presidential Human Rights Committee, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation. The NBI is the Philippines' premier investigating body and is an attached agency of the DOJ.

De Lima said they will conduct an inventory of the cases in their list to determine which cases will be given priority. De Lima added that they also have created a Technical Working Group to expedite the processing of the cases. Among others, those who will attend the said meeting are Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales and Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Loreta Rosales.
