An improvised bomb exploded in a lodging house near the office of the National Bureau of Investigation in Palao at around 7:15 p.m. on December 24 but no one was killed or injured. The blast occurred inside a rented room at the second floor of the Nigra Lodging House, destroying the rooms and sliding door and fixtures on the ground flood. But NBI Iligan chief Alex Cabornay said the explosion was not intended to kill people. The 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion dispatched troops and set up security measures in crowded areas while the Philippine National Police established checkpoints in all entry points to Iligan City.
