From the Philippine Information Agency (Dec 13): Army soldiers conduct medical, dental mission at Echague interior village

The 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army based at Gamu town is conducting a medical and dental mission including anti-rabies vaccination at barangay Mabbayad, Echague, Isabela today. The activity is part of the army division’s civil military operations battalion continuing provision of health services in remote areas in its jurisdiction. Colonel Loreto Magundayao, civil military operation battalion commander and concurrent spokesman of Camp Melchor dela Cruz, said the activity will render health services to the residents in the area and in its nearby barangays of Narra and San Miguel.

Magundayao said it was in barangay Mabbayad in Echague where army troopers and New People’s Army had an encounter. Seven soldiers were killed and eight were wounded in that incident. The civil military operations battalion is a unit of the army which conducts civic works like medical and dental missions, relief, rescue and retrieval operations and other socio-civic actions to benefit the civilian population.  Nearby village residents of Narra and San Miguel are invited to converge at Mabbayad to avail of the free medical, dental and anti-rabies vaccination brought by the army personnel in the area.
