From Rappler (Dec 13): Aquino appoints Alano Navy commander

Armed Forces Central Command chief Vice Admiral Jose Luis Alano has been designated by President Benigno Aquino III as the Philippine Navy’s flag officer in command. He replaces Vice Admiral Alexander Pama who retires this December at the age of 56. Alano was formerly the leader of several important units in the Navy, including the Philippine Fleet, Office of the Chief of Naval Staff, Naval Forces Northern Luzon, Service Force Command and Naval Air Group, the Palace said.

Born on May 1, 1958 in Quezon province, Alano started his military career when he entered the Philippine Military Academy in 1975. He joined the Navy in 1979 after graduation. Alano studied here and abroad and also had undertaken graduate courses in Australia and in the US. Alano has been the recipient of the Distinguished Service Star, Command at Sea Plaque, Military Medal Award, the Philippine Navy Surface Warfare Operation Badge, and the People Power II Ribbon, among others.
