From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 28): Soldier killed in an encounter with NPAs

A soldier was killed during an encounter with undetermined number of the New People's Army (NPA) remnants in Sitio Tabionan, Brgy Bucari, Leon, Iloilo on Saturday. The soldier,airlifted to a hospital in Iloilo city but expired, was identified as Private First Class John Philip Durana of Bravo Company of the 82nd Infantry Battalion of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division (3ID). Government troops under 1st Lieutenant Camlon Ramones were conducting peace and security operations in the area when they encountered NPA rebels. "Our persistent call for peace with the people shall continue despite this response from the NPA rebels. This 'armed struggle' has become not only anti-government but anti-people as well", said Major General Jose Mabanta Jr, 3ID Commander.
