From Panay News (Feb 24, 2024): Rebel surrenders to police (By Ruby P. Silubrico)

ILOILO City – A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to the police and local government in Pandan, Antique, on Thursday after spending several years in the mountains. The 60-year-old, known as “Maylene”, was a vendor and former member of Squad Madyaas, Northern Front Guerrilla Unit (FGU), Panay Regional Party Committee.

She turned herself in at around 11 a.m. in Barangay Centro Sur, Pandan, Antique.

Maylene also handed over a .38 caliber revolver to the police.

She decided to surrender to the authorities due to the prolonged hunger experienced in the mountains.

On another note, Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), praised his team for their outstanding performance.

“I urge them to continue persuading individuals who have joined rebel groups to return to the government’s fold. I appreciate rebels who have chosen peace. Their courage acts are beacons of hope and reconciliation,” said Wanky.
