The series of encounters transpired while the troops were conducting combat operations in response to the information from local residents about the presence of armed remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor.

The slain CNTs were identified as Emaryn Pastedio, also known as Jandie (WPSRL), who served as medical staff for NNF (D), KR-NCBS. Christopher Ebarle, known as Michael (WPSRL), was a member of Squad 3 Sentro de Grabedad Platoon, NNF (D), KR-NCBS, and Jose Caramihan, known as Jose (WPSRL), was a member of NNF (D), KR-NCBS.

During clearing operations following eight encounters, the troops not only recovered the bodies of three CNTs but also seized six (6) high-powered firearms, four (4) low-powered firearms, several explosives, including one (1) anti-personnel mine, eight ( 8 ) rifle grenades, and one (1) hand grenade, explosive paraphernalia and other war materials.

On the government side, four (4) soldiers of 79IB, including a CAFGU Active Auxiliary, were slightly wounded during the clashes. They are now in stable condition after being brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.

Similarly, the Army urges residents displaced during the recent clearing operations to return home, emphasizing that the area is gradually returning to normality. Residents are encouraged to maintain cooperation and vigilance, contributing to collective efforts to uphold peace and security in Escalante City. Those affected are advised to coordinate with and update the troops on the ground for a smooth recovery into their communities.

The Army also highlights the importance of remaining vigilant; residents are urged to report any presence of armed rebels, especially those who may be injured, to facilitate necessary assistance. The battalion is ready to offer medical treatment for wounded individuals, guaranteeing they receive accurate care at nearby hospitals.

For his part, MGen Marion R Sison, Commander of the 3ID, said that the identification of the three slain CNTs was the result of the intensified security operations in Negros and underscored the need for continued cooperation between the authorities and the locals to address the threats posed by insurgent groups.
"The slain of three CNTs is a clear manifestation of the continuing challenges posed by the CNTs in Negros. The Army will remain vigilant and committed in its mandate to ensuring the safety and security of the local communities," MGen Sison said.

Furthermore, MGen Sison extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the slain CNTs and emphasized that the loss of their lives is attributed to the dissemination of false ideologies perpetuated by the CNTs.

"While we extend our sympathies to the families of those killed, let this serve as a reminder that the ideologies upheld by the CNTs no longer advocate for the rights of the people. Instead, it encourages injustices and instills fear, causing suffering within our community. This incident underscores the consequences of refusing the path of peace. It is a clear indication of what awaits those who persist in violence," MGen Sison added.

He further urges all remaining leaders and members of the CNTs to reconsider their choices and embrace the opportunity to reintegrate into society peacefully. MGen Sison encourages them to avail themselves of the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and reunite with their families without further delay.
