CAMP GERONA, Murcia, Negros Occidental — Three (3) members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) were killed in an eight (series of encounters between the troops of the 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion and remnants of the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF) in the boundaries of Escalante City and Toboso, all of Negros Occidental which started on February 21 until February 22, 2024

According to the report from 79IB, the eight (series of encounter lasted for almost two days which started on February 21, 2024 until the evening of February 22, 2024 between the government forces of 79IB against the remnants of the dismantled NNF in Sitio Mansulao, Brgy Pinapugasan, Escalante City, Negros Occidental . The killed CNT personalities in a series of encounters in Escalante City, Negros Occidental on February 21 and 22, 2024, were: 1. Emaren Pastidio @JANDIE, medic of remnants of the North Negros Front (Dismantled); 2. Micheal Cabahug @MICHEAL, member, NNF and 3. Jose Caramihan @JOSE, member, NNF (D)

While scouring the encounter site, the troops also seized war materiel such as: eight (high powered firearms, four (4) low powered firearms, one (1) anti-personnel mine, one (1) blasting cap, one (1) HE Grenade, eight (rifle grenades, other war materiels, IED wires, bandoliers, bag packs, other subversive documents and personal belongings.

On the other hand, the Local Government Unit of Escalante City and City Task Force ELCAC headed by Mayor Melecio J Yap Jr, Toboso Local Task Force ELCAC headed by Mayor Madonnah Jaojoco and Provincial Task Force ELCAC headed by Governor Eugenio Jose V Lacson thru PSWDO and CSWDO are extending the foods and shelter needs of hundreds of upland villagers from Pinapugasan in Escalante City and San Isidro in Toboso - wherein close to MOL 227 families have fled their homes after a series of skirmishes over the past two days encounter. They are accommodated and given food and shelter needs in the different evacuation centers in Escalante City and in Toboso.

 
Lt. Colonel Arnel P Calaoagan, Battalion Commander of 79IB, confirmed that four (4) soldiers were slightly wounded in action during the encounter. Said soldiers were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for treatment and are in a stable conditions already.

 
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Orlando D Edralin PA, 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander, lauded the efforts of the operating troops of 79IB in Northern Negros, he also lauded the efforts of the Provincial Task Force ELCAC led by Governor Lacson and City Task Force ELCAC of Escalante City led by Mayor Yap and Municipal TF-ELCAC of Toboso led by Mayor Jaojoco in sustaining peace and security in the area.

 
“We are calling on other members of the CTG to surrender, lay down your arms, and go back to the folds of the law; your family needs you, go home and live peacefully. Abandon this senseless struggle and avail the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
