From the Sun Star-Bacolod (Aug 7, 2023): Suspected rebel killed in Negros Oriental

A suspected New People’s Army member was killed in an encounter with the state troopers at Brgy. Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental Saturday, August 5.
The three-minute firefight that led to the death of the suspected rebel and recovery of one .38 caliber revolver, a hand grenade, and some personal belongings was an offshoot of the clash with the state troopers at Brgy. Imelda, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental after the presence of the armed rebels in the area were reported by the local populace.
This prompted the troops from 62nd Infantry Battalion to immediately respond.
This resulted in a 10-minute firefight that led to the recovery of a .45 caliber pistol with magazines and serviceable ammunition, two backpacks, and personal belongings.
Meanwhile, the 62IB are calling the rebels to lay down their arms and go back to the folds of the law and avail the benefits from the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
