BACOLOD City – The Roselyn Jean Pelle Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) claimed responsibility for the killing of Jomarie Nabeses, a 41-year-old resident of Barangay Cambayobo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, June 10.

In a statement, the rebel group claimed Nabeses was a military intelligence asset. He was allegedly responsible for the raid of an NPA unit in the same area back in 2010, which resulted in the death of a member.

The rebels further claimed that Nabeses provided information to government troops regarding the whereabouts of Felix Susas Jr. and his companions, which led to their arrest last year.

Susas was a commander of the SYP Platoon and secretary of the NPA’s Northern Negros Front, according to the Philippine Army.

Susas was also a suspect in the killings of Renator Estrebillo on Aug. 12, 2022 in Barangay Marcelo and Barangay Captain Benjamin Javoc on Aug. 26, 2022.

The Philippine Army, meanwhile, denied Nabeses was their asset.

The Calatrava police said Nabeses was working in his rice fields when the rebels shot him multiple times.

Recovered were a dud bullet of .45, a fired cartridge of .45, and three fired cartridges of 5.56 mm.
