DAVAO CITY – A total of 75 former rebels in Davao de Oro received PHP3.9 million in cash assistance under the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).

In a statement Wednesday, the Army's 1001st Infantry Brigade (1001IB) said the aid was distributed at the Davao de Oro Provincial Capitol on April 4.

Of the 75 former rebels, 57 were regular members of the New People's Army (NPA) while 18 were members of the rebel group's Milisya ng Bayan who surrendered in 2021.

Each rebel received PHP65,000 while each rebel militia got PHP15,000.

The 1001IB said this would help them start a new life as they re-integrate into mainstream society, as well as their respective communities.

Governor Dorothy Gonzaga thanked the former rebels for their decision to surrender.

"Do not hesitate to knock on the doors of the government to ask for help," Gonzaga said.

Axel, the former political instructor of the dismantled NPA Guerrilla Front 2 operating in Davao de Oro, thanked the provincial government and the military for facilitating their benefits.

“To my former comrades, let us ensure that what we received today will be used properly. It's just a small amount, but it is a great help for us to start a new life," she said in the vernacular.
