More CNTs surrender to 53IB
Five rebels of the Guerilla Front (GF) KARA under the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) surrendered to the 53rd Infantry "Matapat" Battalion (53IB) on March 28, 2022 at Camp Sabido, Poblacion, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
Among the CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) were the Commander of the defunct GF KARA along with his four comrades. The rebels laid down nine high-powered firearms to the 1st Infantry Division (1ID) and 102nd Infantry Brigade (102Bde). According to the 102Bde, the surrender of CNTs will cripple the ability of other rebels to commit atrocities against innocent civilians especially in the hinterlands.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. praised the efforts of the 53IB in transforming Zamboanga del Sur to an insurgency-free and development-ready province. Lt. Gen. Brawner highlighted on his command guidance, SERVE, the necessity of putting an end to the local communist armed conflict.
