MAWAB, Davao De Oro – 400 solar lights will now illuminate the 32 sitios along the 27.2 kilometer “PANPAN” road project in Talaingod, Davao Del Norte following a turnover and ceremonial lighting of the solar light post dubbed as “Suga Para sa Katawhan” held at Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil on Monday, March 22, 2022 with the troops of 1003rd Infantry Brigade of the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division; Philippine National Police; Jaime V Onpin Foundation Incorporated (JVOFI) and the Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICC).

The 300-watt donated solar lights from the JVOFI were received by several IP Datus and Purok chairmen led by Datu Kuray Ibunan. It will also be distributed to other sitios from Sitio Nasilaban to Sitio Bato where the current “PANPAN” road project is underway.

Barangay Palma Gil Kagawad Intot Juan in his message extends the people’s appreciation to the donors and the government for the lighting project and the presence of the 56IB to secure and assist them in their area.

“These 400 solar lights, we can say that it will provide light to the darkness, light in the dark. It will give us hope, a hope that will tell us that even how dark Talaingod was before, there will always be a light to guide you every step of the way,” BGen Consolito Yecla, Commander of 1003rd Brigade said.

BGen Yecla also mentions that the bloody chapter of insurgency in Talaingod is now finished as he presents former communist terrorist group (CTG) leaders to the communities, namely former Secretary of Sub-Regional Committee 5 Ida Marie Montero alias Mandy, former secretary of Guerilla Front 55 Arian Jane Ramos alias Ka Marikit, and former Commanding Officer (CO) of the Sub-Regional Guerilla Unit (SRGU) Lutenant Apoga alias Ka Macky. They were all operating in Talaingod before.

In their statements, Ka Marikit and Ka Mandy said that they will continue to serve the Indigenous People’s communities with the government and that the initiative of 10ID is a great help to the IP communities.


Moreover, BGen Yecla extends his gratitude on behalf of the Agila Division for the generosity of the JVOFI as it also donated several sacks of food packs to the community in Talaingod and to the provincial government of Davao Del Norte for the logistical and financial support for the ongoing Panpan road project.

Agila Division Commander MGen Nolasco A Mempin lauded the initiative of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade as it pursue genuine programs in partnership with the different government agencies and non-government organizations in addressing issues exploited by the Communist-Terrorist Groups.
