A year later, the families and friends of the victims of the Bloody Sunday Massacre have yet to see justice for the brutal and terrorist act the state committed against the people of Southern Tagalog. On the contrary, fascism and state repression have only gotten worse.

Only today, the police conducted raids in different parts of Cavite under the pretext of the war on drugs. Several people were accosted, with one Jonathan Mercado – a peasant leader – arrested and yet to be surfaced. This is no less than a brazen act of harassment, coming only days after local and national politicians’ blatant red-tagging of the people of Cavite.

Recently, Duterte’s Anti-Terrorism Council named 16 NDFP allied organizations as terrorists. On one hand, the designation is absurd, bordering on downright comical. The Kabataang Makabayan is a clandestine group. A piece of paper claiming it to be a terrorist entity can’t change the fact that KM is a 57-year-old revolutionary organization that has played significant roles in uniting the Filipino youth and toppling dictatorships.

On the flip side, this terrorist designation only proves how uninterested the Duterte regime is in solving the roots of the armed struggle and addressing the just demands of the Filipino people.

The NDFP represents the CPP-NPA in the peace negotiations with the GRP. Naming it a terrorist is tantamount to the state hammering the last nail in the peace talks’ coffin.

There is no doubt that the state will take advantage of this terrorist designation to quell mass movements and “justify” illegal arrests and, worse, extrajudicial killings.

Kabataang Makabayan is not, and will never be, forced into a corner by a bunch of corrupt and fascist state officials claiming us to be terrorists. In fact, our revolutionary fervor and optimism are more ablaze than ever!

We are revolutionary youths fighting against systemic oppression and exploitation in a semi-feudal and semi-colonial society. Our 57 years of democratic struggle stand witness to how just and correct our principles are, and we will continue to uphold and espouse these principles!

Kabataang Makabayan stands with the Filipino masses in condemning the state’s relentless repression and outright attacks. We are with you in mourning and struggle, and we will be with you in triumph and freedom.

Long live Kabataang Makabayan!
Long live the New People’s Army!
